As of 2002 most members will have their RMD calculated using the uniform distribution table below. This table replaces all of the old tables used through 2001. You no longer have to worry about single or joint life expectancies, and recalculated or fixed period calculations. The uniform distribution table is used to calculate RMDs regardless of past investment elections.
There's an exception for members who have named their spouse as their sole beneficiary, and that
spouse is more than 10 years younger than the member.
If this applies to you, you can have your RMD calculated using the old joint
life expectancy tables. BERS can assist you
in deciding which option is best for you by calculating your RMD using both tables and
comparing the results.
The Economic
Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (EGTRRA) specified that the Treasury
Department should update the uniform distribution table. We cant predict when that table will be
updated, but you can be assured that your RMDs will be calculated by BERS using the latest
tables available.
